A MESSAGE FROM THE CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIRS

  

Dear Friends,

We all know how special Saint John’s Catholic Prep is.  The only Catholic high school in the county providing a faith-based education, it has, for almost two centuries, prepared our young men and women to face the spiritual, intellectual, and social challenges of our world.  Today, we are as committed as ever to the Jesuit principles first brought to our school by Father McElroy in 1829 - to educate the whole student: mind, body, and spirit - as we take the next step in expanding the learning experience for our students at a new campus.

In 2005, the Board of Directors voted to purchase a 46 acre tract of land outside Buckeystown, MD, to build a new school campus. With the challenging economy over the past few years, the long-term financing was becoming more difficult to solidify this endeavor.  On December 5, 2011, a great opportunity presented itself in which Saint John’s Catholic Prep entered into a contract with St. Thomas More Academy to purchase their building and property. The St. Thomas More Academy is adjacent to the 46 acre property that we purchased in 2005.  The sale of St. Thomas More Academy’s building and property to Saint John’s Catholic Prep allowed each school to move to a building more suitable for their respective sizes and represented a positive development for both communities.  Since September, 2012, The St. Thomas More Academy building has been modified and expanded into a beautiful new high school to accommodate 400 high school students initially and will eventually increase to 500 students.  The new Saint John’s campus now features 67 acres and allows for more expanded athletic fields and a stadium.  We are pleased to announce that Saint John’s has successfully moved into their new school and has begun their second semester.  

We are also pleased to announce that we have reached $2.3 million in gifts and pledges for the Legacy Campaign and we have a contract for the sale of the Prospect Hall property.  We are now focused on raising funds for the athletic fields.

Our New Campus
Located on 67 acres in Buckeystown, MD, our new campus will offer a faith-based, high school education, preserving our beloved 200-year old traditions. The school will have state-of-the-art technolgy and more expanded athletic fields. The new facilities allow our students to grow intellectually, physically, and spiritually.
An Endowment
Establishing an endowment is critical to the school’s future financial well-being.  An endowment will help us expand and diversify our study body and make it possible for us to attract and retain the best high school teachers in the Catholic tradition.  Learn More
