The Campus Ministry program provides students with opportunities to experience faith in God and Jesus Christ on a personal level and to encourage their active participation in the Catholic Christian community of Saint John’s Catholic Prep.  We achieve this mission as faculty and staff by working together with our students to experience faith not only through liturgy and other worship experiences, but also by creating an atmosphere where students encounter the Gospel of Jesus in everyday activities.

There are numerous ways for students to become involved in the Campus Ministry program.  In addition to being part of the team that plans liturgies and other religious events, there will also be opportunities for students to be part of the worship team as choir members and musicians.  Students can also be involved in planning and implementing service projects, and helping to plan special events.

Events of 2012-13 School Year

The Year of Faith
The Year of Faith was the theme of this year's sophomore retreat.  On Friday, October 19, the 10th graders traveled to St. Peter's Parish in Libertytown for a day of Christian music, Mass, and testimonies.  During the retreat, the students took time for journaling and wrote letters to God and to themselves.  The letters will be saved and returned to them on their senior retreat in two years.  The day was run by Dawn Miller, Director of Campus Ministry, with the help of many faculty members who joyfully helped serve food, play music, and led some great discussions.  The day ended the best way a retreat can - with Mass led by Fr. Jason Worely.  Thank you to all who helped the sophomores grow a little deeper in their faith.

The "Keys" of Life
On Friday, October 19, the junior class traveled to St. Mary's in Barnesville for a one-day retreat.  The major theme was to look at the "keys" of our lives. The students shared their thoughts about the important people, events, and places that got them to this point in their lives and aslo shared what they will need to be successful, faithful, and happy people in the future.  They played, prayed, shared, and reflected.  The day ended with liturgy and a gift of a key.

Freshmen Enjoy Retreat
On Thursday, August 23, our incoming freshmen spent the day on campus, first going through orientation, then "going" on retreat in the gym for the remainder of the day.  With the help of many teachers and 12 upperclassmen trained as Peer Ministers, the students competed in a scavenger hunt, met in small groups to discuss transitioning into high school, sang contemporary Christian songs, witnessed a drama put on by the Peer Ministers, and prayed together.  The day ended with Mass led by Fr. Michael Jendrek from St. Ignatius who gave us all great advice: "Don't be afraid to try something new."  There was much laughter throughout the entire day.  It was also a great time for the freshmen to learn the campus and get to know many of the students and teachers.  Many thanks to the Peer Ministers and the adults who volunteered their time and helped make the retreat a great success!
